Atlanta Police Brutality Lawyers Serving all of Georgia
"David Van Sant and his staff were great to work with. Great communication, very efficient. They took care of what I needed so I didn’t have to be harassed by insurance adjusters. They worked very fast and got myself and my daughter a fair settlement. I would highly recommend him." (Sally S. – personal injury client)
No one deserves to be abused by those in power, and no police officer has the authority to violate your civil rights.
We all depend on the police to protect us and faithfully enforce the law. Fortunately, most of the officers in Georgia are upstanding citizens who behave ethically in the face of a very demanding job. But sometimes, individual officers or even whole departments can abuse their power and break the law.
At Van Sant Law, LLC, we care about the rights of ordinary citizens who encounter the police in day-to-day life or when they’re accused of a crime. Police misconduct and brutality are serious violations of justice, and our firm is dedicated to holding those in power accountable when they overstep their boundaries.
You are not powerless. As police brutality attorneys in Atlanta, we have years of experience in representing victims of misconduct and abuse. Challenging the police in court can be difficult and you might feel like the deck is stacked against you, but with an experienced attorney on your side, you are not alone. We’re here to give you a voice and fight for your rights.

Police Misconduct and Brutality Takes Many Forms
The phrase “police brutality” might conjure up images of violent encounters and horrible headlines from the past, but sometimes even less glaring infractions can constitute police misconduct.
Common examples of police misconduct and brutality in Georgia include:
- Improper use of weapons
- Unjustified shootings
- Excessive force (including assault, battery, or beatings)
- False arrests or false imprisonment
- Search or seizure without a warrant
- Sexual harassment
- Rape of prison inmates
- Falsifying or tampering with evidence
- Discrimination on the basis of race, religion, or another protected class
- Any abuse of power
Police aren’t allowed to assault or batter you except when absolutely necessary, and even then, they must act in accordance with extremely narrow guidelines.
The same goes for weaponry. Tasers, stun guns, and shootings are last resorts, only allowed in very rare circumstances. Remember: you don’t lose your rights when you talk with a police officer — or even when you’re accused of a crime.
