More than ten people died in an accident on a stretch of Interstate 75 south of Gainesville, Florida early Sunday morning, supposedly due to heavy smoke and fire from a brush fire that authorities say was intentionally set.

Among the dead are five members of a Marietta, Georgia church who were traveling in a van on the interstate.

Witnesses to the horrific accident say they could hear cars crashing and people screaming, but the smoke and haze was nearly blinding in the dark.

Rescue crews also had a hard time finding victims in the haze. The accident shut down both sides of the Interstate. At least a dozen cars and six tractor trailers were involved, and many of the vehicles were so badly burned their tires were completely melted away.

Authorities believe the heavy smoke from the fire caused the multi-car pile-up.
