Driver Not Charged in Death of Rapper Struck by Car

Categories: Liability

Natina Reed, a rapper with the group Blaque, died last Friday when she was standing in the middle of the road just north of Lilburn and was struck by a car that did not see her and did not have time to stop. She would have been 33 years old on Sunday.

The driver of the car contacted police immediately, while a passenger in the vehicle attempted to perform CPR on Reed. An ambulance rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities believe the accident could not be avoided, calling it a freak occurrence.

Reed was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend to many, and the artistic world is showing an outpouring of support, particularly to her ten-year-old son.

According to Atlanta personal injury lawyer David Van Sant, accidents like this are rare. Typically someone is considered to be at fault. However, because of the circumstances of the situation, authorities chose not to charge the driver. A civil case may be brought by the family of the victim, but that remains to be seen. Authorities have not released the name of the driver or the passenger who tried to save Reed’s life.

When accidents occur, it is important to seek counsel from a personal injury lawyer. An attorney can help determine if there is cause for a lawsuit, and he or she can also assist in ensuring that medical bills are covered or car repairs are taken care of.
