Atlanta DJ Injured in Wrong Way Crash Getting Married

Categories: Accident Victims

Atlanta radio morning show personality Kelly Stevens will get married Saturday, two months after surviving a car crash on Georgia 400 that killed the other driver.

You may remember the story we reported in this blog of a wrong way driver. In fact there seemed to be a rash of this happening on Georgia interstates in late summer. Many wrong-way crashes occur in the early morning hours, precisely the time when a morning DJ is going to work.

Stevens was on his way into work in the wee hours of the morning on Aug. 24 when a wrong-way car collided head-on with him on Georgia 400. The driver, Carly Royball, 22, died.

Stevens was not wearing his seatbelt and was slung across the seats as his car flipped.

According to news reports, he was left with a shattered leg and arm, along with two fractured ribs and a vertebra. He spent two weeks at Grady Memorial Hospital, some of that time in the ICU before being transferred to a rehabilitation clinic, where he spent more time.

Surviving the crash gave him a new lease on life, and he proposed to his girlfriend of one year from his hospital bed. She said yes, and they will be married this weekend. Stevens is still in a wheelchair recovering from his injuries, but he’ll be back on the air from his home next week.
